The Student and Staff Soil Science Society, usually known as S5, was established in 2013 by students from the School of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development and the School of Biology.  It is a society dedicated to making soils and the wider environment more accessible to everyone in a fun and informal setting. Its members are passionate about the environment and come together to debate, share ideas and learn more.

The Society runs monthly meetings and this year is planning to expand to socials and various trips. Membership is open to any registered Newcastle University student or member of staff.
