As well as getting involved in our society events, there’s even more you can get involved in if you’re interested in wilderness or pre-hospital medicine.
Wild Trials
Every year, medical students interested in wilderness medicine from various universities get together for the Wild Trials, the national student wilderness medicine competition. Each team will face various challenges in wilderness and pre-hospital medical scenarios, leadership and wilderness survival skills.
It is a great opportunity to test your knowledge and skills, socialise with people with the same interests and talk to the experts in the field. We cannot guarantee you will win, but it will definitely be fun! It was held last in March 2016 at Warwick University, click here to see what it was like.
Watch this space for information on the next Wild Trials, we will be looking to gather teams of 4 to represent Newcastle!
SWMUK
Student Wilderness Medicine UK organises a conference each year. It includes talks by professionals from a variety of Wilderness Medicine Specialties, interactive workshops that teach skills in a scenario based format, and most importantly lots of fun! This year it took place in Edinburgh, have a look to see what you can expect from future conferences.
