Newcastle Wilderness Medicine Society runs a packed programme including weekends away, day walks, activities, teaching, and social events to meet with like-minded people.
The society is open to all. Our trips are a mixture of outdoor activities (such as hiking, navigation, orienteering and survival skills) and emergency medicine in remote environments. We find therefore that we appeal mostly to medics, but we’re not exclusive.
You’ll need to pay for membership (£15) through the NUSU website before you can come on any trips. This lasts for the whole year. After that it’s up to you which trips and events you get involved in – we try and run 2-3 weekend trips every term, with a range of other events such as day walks, teaching and socials. We keep costs as low as possible, but each weekend trip (including accommodation, transport, some meals and all activities) is usually around £20-£30.
