However, if you miss this then please contact us to find out how you can get involved. Anyone registered as a volunteer needs to <a title=\"sign up to Medsin\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nusu.co.uk\/activities\/societies\/society\/7171\/\">sign up<\/a> to Medsin on the Newcastle Students union societies\u00a0page.<\/p>\n<h1><span style=\"color: #33cccc\">Our Projects<\/span><\/h1>\n<hr \/>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<h2>Storehouse<\/h2>\n<div style=\"float: left;width: 55%\">\n<div style=\"padding-right: 50px\">Storehouse is a local homelessness project run by Tyneside Vineyard Church, which provides practical support to those in need.<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-right: 50px\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-right: 50px\">We run two volunteering sessions:<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-right: 50px\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: inherit;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 15px;font-style: inherit;line-height: 1.625\">Every Saturday we take volunteers from 10-12pm to <\/span><span style=\"color: inherit;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 15px;font-style: inherit;line-height: 1.625\">help serve breakfast, tea and coffee to the people at storehouse and offer your time and a listening ear<\/span><span style=\"color: inherit;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-size: 15px;font-style: inherit;line-height: 1.625\">. \u00a0Everyone who has visited will agree it is a really enjoyable and rewarding way to spend a Saturday morning so please come along!<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Every Wednesday we send volunteers from 1-3:30pm to help people choose clothes from the clothes bank or provide them with food and hygiene packs. \u00a0This helps people feel cared for and\u00a0promotes dignity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"float: right;width: 40%\">\n<div style=\"padding-left: 20px\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.societies.ncl.ac.uk\/homednewcastle\/files\/2014\/05\/food-bank.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-57\" src=\"https:\/\/www.societies.ncl.ac.uk\/homednewcastle\/files\/2014\/05\/food-bank.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"Food-bank\" width=\"239\" height=\"222\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1 style=\"clear: both\"><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"clear: both\">Acane<\/h1>\n<p>Acane is a centre in Byker for the African refugee community that Homed have recently become involved with. \u00a0Volunteering opportunities are on a wednesday afternoon, when we go down to help anyone who needs assistance\u00a0with writing CVs and applying for jobs. It&#8217;s a great opportunity to meet some wonderful people with really interesting stories to tell and also understand some of the challenges people coming from other backgrounds face.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.societies.ncl.ac.uk\/homednewcastle\/files\/2014\/05\/acane-logo-small.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.societies.ncl.ac.uk\/homednewcastle\/files\/2014\/05\/acane-logo-small.png?w=300\" alt=\"Acane-Logo-Small\" width=\"300\" height=\"111\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Changing Lives<\/h2>\n<p>Volunteering with changing lives involves running health promotion clinics encouraging people to be more aware of the risk\u00a0factors for conditions such as hypertension and cancer and\u00a0encouraging people to make healthy, informed lifestyle choices regarding diet, smoking and alcohol. \u00a0Therefore this volunteering opportunity is\u00a0mainly available to students\u00a0with a medical background.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Space 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Space 2\" href=\"http:\/\/space2.org\">Space 2<\/a> is a youth project in the centre of Newcastle where we run themed health workshops surrounding health issues that affect young people such as alcohol, smoking and contraception. \u00a0The workshops take place on a Thursday evening between 5-7pm.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.societies.ncl.ac.uk\/homednewcastle\/files\/2014\/10\/space2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-134\" src=\"https:\/\/www.societies.ncl.ac.uk\/homednewcastle\/files\/2014\/10\/space2.jpg\" alt=\"space2\" width=\"198\" height=\"70\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How to get involved Homed has a training evening at the start of each academic year.
