On 25th September 2025, we organised our first informal event, the FMS Scientist Social Brew, bringing together Research Assistants and Associates over coffee. We wanted to offer a relaxed environment to people across the Faculty to meet peers, share experiences, and build networks. We also wanted to provide people with an opportunity to get to know and informally meet with early career researcher (ECR) leads. We were joined by Lisa Russell and Bernard Corfe, the ECR leads for the Biosciences Institute and the Population Health Sciences Institute. Supa Coles from Miltenyi Biotec, who kindly provided the catering for the event, was also in attendance.
The event was a success! We had some interesting conversations with the researchers who attended, and they appreciated the chance to meet peers informally and to speak with the ECR leaders over coffee. We also welcomed a few new members because of the event!
We circulated a feedback form later, and many people responded with suggestions for improvement and for other events.
Rest assured, we are listening to this feedback! We have many more events planned for the coming months.
The next event will be social drinks from 16:00 to 18:00 on 18th November 2025, and we hope to meet many people there.
